It may be slow but at least it's fun to work on!
2.5 litres of turbocharged diesel power = good
2.5 tonnes laden weight = not good
Result = this would be the rolling stone that gathers moss
Fun and games setting it up - 10mm steel steering / sump plate, 7mm steel axle protector, new radiator, spare alternator, new water pump, window tints, spot lights, upgraded road lights, twin battery, 4 x off road tyres and wheels (plus the 5 more road type), interior cooling fans and a gnome.
Successful Road Test - no probs at all with 300 bottles of French wine in the back. Now all we need pack are the sapres wheels and we are ready
Successful Delivery - Disco's are unstoppable. While others were doing 20mph in Kas and Mongolia, we were able to do 50mph. The suspension allowed us to get up to speed on those Kas ridges and just skip over the top of them. And if we missed avoiding a pothole, no major probs - the Disco just hits them and comes out the other side. Even making your own tracks is no problem. Or even going up a river bed at 40 degrees - just engage diff lock and low ratio and out she comes.
Ok so one rear shockabsorber stopped working and the rubber mounting of the other disintergrated - but even with little damping at the back, everything was fine. I think the dust may have got to the power steering as it went heavy at times but I'm sure a flush will sort that out (could even be the belt slipping). The major shock was fuel consumption - 38 and 40 mpg on the motorways, 33mpg off road.
