Our car is a slightly older Nissan Micra but is in superb condition. We have also spent a lot of time on the vehicle, renewing a lot of parts and adding upgrades on the way. The car has a custom built sump guard and roof rack. It has also received a suspension transplant from a 95 Polo. This gives the car a higher ride heiBght for better ground clearance and also has stiffer springs so it can cope well under load.

Our vehicle was sold to a guy who approached us outside our hotel. Got all his details and driving licence info.

Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Abandoned - why?: 
Had some work done on the carb, mechanic didn't put a fuel line clip back on. It popped off and set the engine bay on fire.

We donated the vehicle and all our equipment to a local orphanage in Astana. Due to problems with bureaucracy its most likely that the car will have to be broken and sold for parts

Suffered from repeated blowing of head gaskets. By the time we'd got the problem properly sorted we'd run out of time on our Russian visas so we flew home from Kazakhstan

Half way through our journey, in Slovakia, 3 of our 4 members got their passports stolen, as well as the car registration paper and the insurance. Since the owner of the car had to drop out of the rallyn since getting an Iranian passport back takes about a month, and the vehicle cannot pass the border withouth the owner, our beloved Hilux Surf was dumped in Latvia, the last of Schengen countries, right before entering Ukrain. 2 members continued the journey using the trans siberian.
