Khukh MongolKhukh Mongol was founded in 1997 by Dashtseren Erdenbold. The name "Khukh Mongol" means blue Mongolia and was chosen, because of the special meaning of the color BLUE for all Mongols, which appreciates the full, lowblue color of the Mongolian sky. It is maintained that all newlyborn Mongolian children have a blue mark on their back. In addition Mongolia is well known as the country of the blue sky. On nearly 300 days in the year the sky of Mongolia is clear and blue.
The members of "Khukh Mongol" came together 1997 in Ulaan Baator. Since then, they travel under the direction of Dashtseren Erdenebold as musical Ambassadors of Mongolia through the world.
Beside the studied singers and musicians of typical Mongolian instruments such as horse head violin, hackbrett, flute and bass, the wife of the leader, the Khoeoemii female singer Purevsuren Usukhjargal, which controls this singing technology as one of three women in Mongolia, belongs to the group! As a further musical characteristic , their common son, the sevenyearold Erdenebold Tuguldur is to be heard with OvertoneVoice & ThroatSinging on the track: "Tavan Hasag".
Since 1998 the group had many great appearances with their comprehensive repertoire from traditional instrumental music, songs (Khoomi, Magtaal praise) and dances (religious mask dance Tsam, traditional mask dance, traditional dance Bijelgee) in whole Western Europe, USA and Japan. The musicians and dancers of Khukh Mongol participated successfully on numerous of jazzand folk music festivals in Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. Khukh Mongol performs in traditional Mongolian costums, which are manufactured in the main of heavy brocade material in wonderful designs and brilliant colours. All musicians from Khukh Mongol are professionals, who studied Mongolian folk music.
Discography
CD "Tsagaan Suwraga" "Tsagaan Suwraga" means "white Stupa". A Stupa is a holy building. White Stupas are found everywhere in Mongolia. The color White symbolises purity, innocence and goodwill. With the construction of a Stupa, the local deities are highly honoured. Or the designer wants to sanctify and honour the Mongolian home country of the artists. In this sense also the title of these unusual CD is to be understood. The publication of this collection of marvelously beautiful traditional music shall honour the Mongolian homeland of the artists. When you listen to this musical “White Stupa”, you will feel, as if you were in the marvellous landscapes of Mongolia. You will feel the vastness of Central Mongolian Steppes, smell the clear mountain air and see the herds of camel and sand dunes of Gobi before your eyes.
CD "Chinggis Khaan" The CD tells the history of the Temuujin (Chinggis Khaan), who was born on the 16th day of the first summer month in the year of the horse, or after European time calculation on 31 May 1162 at the mountain Deluun Boldog, today's province Khentii Aimag. Because his father, Yeshuhei Baatar, already died during his childhood, his mother, queen Uelin, educated her children. Since childhood Chinggis awake understanding, his large talent as elbow contactors, his courage and his guidance qualities became clear. 1189 Chinggis was inthronisiert as the king of all Mongols and received the title Chinggis Khaan. The CD a journey to the historical roots. From 1185 to 1205 Chinggis led around 80 clans, united the torn country and fixed the broken nation again. 1206 the large Hurildai (meeting) placed a new government, took over the king title "Chinggis" and set Temuujin on the total Mongolian throne. 1211 Chinggis Khaan began with the attack on its southern neighbour, the Altan realm, large conquests. Later many further wars expenditure fenced, than the Mongols numerous countries conquered and so the rule area Chinggis Khaans and its sons expanded until
Europe and created so the Mongolian world realm. Chinggis Khaan ranks among the largest field gentlemen and state founders of history. The long existence of the world realm created by it is attributed among other things to its religious tolerance and the internal agreement of its descendants. Chinggis Khaans world realm became in such a way the intermediary of many cultures.
CD "Minii Nutag" music for globetrotter
A journey to Mongolia. It acts of the wind, of rivers and the mountains, of horses and camels. Khoeoemii, the worldwide singular laryngeal and overtone singing technology of the Mongols, are expression of this intimate relationship. As the further musical characteristic "Tavan Hasag" is her common son, the sevenyearold Erdenebold Tuguldur to hear with laryngeal singing in the piece.
Instruments, Vocals and Dance
Morin Khuur - horse head violin Morins Khuur or horse head violin is a wooden knee violin with a carved horse head as conclusion of the neck. The two strings, with which the sqaure corpus is covered, consist of horse hair, and are coated with a bow, which is made of wood and horse hair
Yochin - dulcimer - a stringed instrument, originally from China of the Ming dynasty (13681644), was adapted by Arab and Persian.
Limbe - flute - traditional wind instrument. Limbe is a modern name for transverse flute. Tovshuur swanneck Lute, dulcimer and the Doombor (snake skin lute) original from the Tovshuur.
Bombor - drum This small drum is covered and stringed on both ends with an animal hide, and it is played with two drumsticks – high and low tones
Shudraga - A Tripple String Long-Neck Lute - Three String Plucked Instrument. The Mongolian Shudraga is a lute with complex round corpus and a very long and straight neck with a square head. The corpus is covered with a goat, camel and cow skin.
Ikh Khuur – Bass Violin – The Ikh Khuur, the big violin, is the most important instrument in modern Volk music orchestra for the accompaniment of odes. It is playing standing, like a European contrabass. The shape looks like that of a small horsehead violin.
Khoomi - overtone & throat singing - This special type of singing produces the sound of the Mongolian steppes, mountains
the and rivers. Khoomi was sung in the era of Chinggis Khaans (12Century) on official occasions.
Tsam mask dance - Significant religious rituals, which show the Buddhist doctrine through concrete Apostolic images and essence.
Bielgee - Traditional Dance
Traditional Puppet Dance - Short funny dances in a doll-like dress and makeup.
